Upcycled

I sometimes work with recycled glass bottles, transforming discarded materials into objects of beauty and value. This sustainable medium challenges perceptions and sparks dialogue about its potential for artistic expression .

HORDE

An installation piece made from recycled clear glass bottles, each piece individually engraved/sand-blasted with a myriad of sea urchin patterns (100cm wide x 160cm tall x 10cm).

Urchins are known to be good indicators of the water quality of our oceans. They are vital in maintaining the balance needed for a healthy ecosystem. The piece entitled ‘Horde’ considers the use of recyclable resources. Over 100 wine bottles have been cleaned, cut and re-blown in my studio in Brisbane, then engraved and sandblasted to create a formidable piece that re-uses existing materials and minimal resources. I hope the audience can see the potential of working in this way to educate and raise awareness of the plight we are faced with, as resources become more scarce.
